The Situation

In early 2022, after completing a double degree in UX Design and Business Management at Swinburne University, I joined StrongRoom AI, a medical tech startup focused on improving medication management to reduce adverse drug reactions (ADRs) in clinical settings.

I was hired to lead the UX and UI design for StrongCare, a new product targeting aged care facilities. When I began my journey the product had not yet launched. The aged care sector faced significant challenges including staffing shortages, complex compliance workflows and stock management issues. StrongCare aimed to improve medication administration processes through two core product features being the eCDR (Electronic Controlled Drug Register) and eNRMC (Electronic National Residential Medication Chart).

The Task

My initial responsibility was to design and deliver a digital product that simplified complex medication workflows, ensured compliance, and was usable by clinicians with limited technical skills. Over time, my role expanded to leading the product roadmap, managing a cross-functional team, and overseeing the product’s strategic direction and delivery.

Research & Initial Design

Conducted user interviews and on-site observations with nurses, pharmacists and aged care staff.
Shadowed medication rounds to understand real-world workflow and compliance challenges.
Collaborated with clinical advisors to simplify product workflows.
Created user personas and journey maps to inform UX decisions.
Developed low and high-fidelity prototypes in Figma.

Company Design System & Product Iteration

Led the creation of StrongRoom’s cross-product design system in Figma.
Defined and documented component behaviours, patterns and usage guidelines.
Standardised visual language, typography, spacing and interaction styles.
Collaborated with developers to implement reusable components in code.
Audited legacy screens and updated them to align with new design standards.
Trained other designers and developers on how to apply the design system effectively.
Refined core workflows based on insights from pilot users across aged care sites.
Introduced UI enhancements for better usability on tablets used in clinical settings.

2024

Product Growth & Leadership

Promoted to Product Designer for StrongCare, overseeing strategy and execution.
Defined and managed the product roadmap aligned with business and user goals.
Facilitated fortnightly sprint planning and backlog management with the dev team.
Coordinated cross-functionally between engineers, QA and stakeholders.
Delivered regular updates to executives and aged care partners.
Continued to run usability testing sessions with nurses and care workers.
Supported successful rollout to 17 aged care facilities across Australia.
Created interactive prototypes to validate upcoming features before development.

The Results

Successfully launched and scaled StrongCare from concept to live implementation.
