The Situation

Newtown & Chilwell Cricket Club (NCCC) is one of Geelong’s oldest community cricket clubs, fielding teams across senior and junior divisions. While the club had a strong on-field reputation, its brand presence and communication channels had not kept pace. Marketing materials were outdated and the club had no real social media footprint, making it difficult to attract new members, engage supporters or promote sponsors and events.

The Task

I was required to modernise the club’s brand identity and build a digital presence from the ground up. My focus was on developing a consistent and professional visual style across print and digital channels. Additionally, the club needed a strategy for their social media that would engage the local community, highlight club achievements and support recruitment and sponsorship.

My Actions
2018 - 2020
Foundation of Digital Presence
  • Identified the club’s outdated visual identity and lack of online presence as key barriers to engagement.
  • Initiated a full visual rebrand including redesigned membership cards, documents, posters and internal signage.
  • Developed a refreshed visual identity system applied consistently across all club materials, from printed collateral to digital media.
  • Designed an initial suite of content templates (match previews, results) to ensure consistency and scalability.
  • Collaborated with committee members to align digital messaging with upcoming events and sponsor agreements.
2021 - 2023
Design System & Other Contributions
  • Developed over 60+ tailored graphics across match-day content, milestone celebrations, sponsor highlights and player features.
  • Streamlined content creation by producing reusable templates in Photoshop for other volunteers to use
  • Maintained communication alignment across club events, internal messaging and sponsor support materials.
  • Provided documentation for other volunteers to continue digital engagement efforts beyond my time.
The Results
  • Built the club’s Instagram presence from 0 to 600+ engaged followers, significantly improving communication with players and supporters.
  • Enabled the club to attract new players, particularly younger recruits, by modernising how it presented itself online.
  • Strengthened community visibility with improved attendance at club events and more interaction across posts.
  • Supported the club’s sponsorship retention and acquisition by delivering consistent exposure and professional visuals for partner brands.
  • Delivered reusable content templates that allowed the club to maintain quality and consistency after my involvement.
  • Elevated the club's profile within the Geelong sporting community by positioning it as professional, inclusive and fun.
  • Helped shift the club’s identity from traditional and outdated to dynamic and digitally connected.
